BOMM Devotional - Week of July 25

“So then, you will know them by their fruits.”

Matthew 7:16,20

This statement from Jesus brackets a simple illustration He utilizes to impart a moral lesson. Jesus presents, “You can identify a specific tree by the fruit it bears. Apple tree’s produce apples, fig trees, figs, and so on” (Matt. 7:15-20). This surrounding text provides the subject for His statement, “So then, you will know them by their fruits.” Specifically, there are those who claim to be of one type, but they are another type altogether. This simple principle is explicit in the fate of man, and considered for self-reflection, as our internal convictions become apparent for all to see.
